CIMS Launches New Website

The new site also presents more than 25 years’ of CIMS-sponsored research in innovation management through a dynamic search function. A number of graduate students in the NC State Jenkins MBA program, in the College of Management, played a key role in cataloging and codifying the research reports that are now matched to the Innovation Management (IM) Framework, also referred to as the Cube. The searchable research reports are categorized by both core competencies and management dimensions.

“These and other features better align the new site with the services and reputation of an organization dedicated to the art and science of innovation,” said Michelle Grainger Smith, CIMS program director. One new feature, for example, enables users to take an animated tour of the IM Cube on which many of CIMS’ programs and tools are based.

“Having a more interactive site allows us to better acquaint prospective members and clients with our unique take on innovation management and its benefits,” said Paul Mugge, director of CIMS. “And it will add value to the relationship we already have with corporations, industry thought leaders, researchers and universities. Since the new site has been launched, we have been very pleased to see how much more we are using the data and other information it contains simply because it is so easily accessible.”

A secured portion of the site was created specifically for member firms, CIMS fellows, and CIMS staff and researchers, to better support collaboration during research projects. It also will provide a secure environment for those using CIMS’ customizable web-based assessments, tools for measuring IM maturity, value of innovation, and virtual team readiness and health.

The secure site also contains an archive of all past meeting presentations and documents dating back to 2000 as well as ongoing discussion boards dedicated to the topical issues and questions raised by CIMS’ members, Grainger Smith said.

The public site offers a basic version of the Maturity Assessment along with a heat map diagnostic for interested parties to try out before customizing and executing the tool company wide. It also provides access to the CIMS’ research reports, individual researchers, descriptions of tools, programs, and assessments, and the interactive IM framework tutorial.

The new site also features an archive of the center’s newsletters dating back to 1992, all of which can be searched by content and year of publication. CIMS recently mailed its last print edition of the newsletter. Those interested in receiving the new online version may register online.

Mugge commended Grainger Smith for her work on the site. “She has been a champion of this project for quite some time, guiding its development from conception through the design and implementation process. There wouldn’t be a new site – certainly of this quality and functionality – without her,” he said. Grainger Smith worked with the Cary-based TrueParallel in developing the web site, with the support of the NC State University IT team.
