Deadline Approaching to Register for AKPsi’s Annual Golf Outing

On April 2, 2011, NC State’s business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi (AKPsi) will be hosting its 10th annual golf tournament fundraiser. This year, proceeds from the event will support the Veterans Leadership Council of North Carolina.

For the past decade, AKPsi has hosted a golf event to raise funds in support of a particular charity. Last year, the fraternity raised roughly $1,000 to donate to the Children’s Miracle Network. In previous years, the student organization has supported St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Eastern Carolina.

The golf tournament will be held at Crooked Creek Golf Course in Fuquay-Varina on April 2. The event, which begins at 1:30 p.m., can accommodate 18 teams, with four members per team. Space is still available for a few more teams or individuals who would like to be placed on a team. The last date to register is Tuesday, March 15. See registration details below.

The golf outing “is a huge event for our chapter,” said Derek Mclamb, president of the college’s AKPsi chapter. It “requires every single one of our members in the planning process … to produce a successful event for both ourselves and the charity that we are supporting that year.”

The group’s decision to support the Veterans Leadership Council was primarily based on AKPsi’s involvement with a “Mystery Dinner” arranged for the group in fall 2010 as part of a Poole College marketing class project. The fraternity’s connection with Joseph Pirozzi also swayed their choice this year. Pirozzi is a marketing instructor in the college’s Department of Business Management and taught the class that arranged the Mystery Dinner fundraiser last fall.

“We felt it was appropriate to choose this organization as our partner for the tournament because Mr. Pirozzi does so much to help our chapter grow and sustain its leadership position,” McLamb said. “We wanted to do something to show our appreciation for his work.”
