Carolina MBA Connection Job Fair Feb. 16

Whether employers are expecting to hire in the next quarter or not, career resources staff in four Triangle area business colleges are inviting recruiters to their Feb. 16 Carolina MBA Connection, to be held at the Sheraton Chapel Hill Hotel.

Participating are the MBA programs at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler School of Business, the North Carolina State University College of Management’s Jenkins MBA Program, and Wake Forest University’s Babcock Graduate School of Management.

“It is important for recruiters to continue building a talent pipeline that they can tap when the economy strengthens and they need to bring in new employees ,” said Linda Taylor, director of career resources in the North Carolina State University College of Management.

“The Carolina MBA Connection is a tremendous opportunity for employers to see the talent that we have in our MBA programs and begin building the relationships that can help them build a quality workforce,” she said. Taylor works primarily with the college’s Jenkins MBA program at the NC State College of Management. While the NACE survey represents a cross-section of employers from all industries and its results do not reflect hiring from any particular academic degree program, is still provides “a welcome positive note for our students,” Taylor said.

NACE started its new employer survey in October 2009, said Ed Koc, director of strategy and foundation research at NACE. “Employers tell us that they try to evaluate their college hiring plans on a quarterly basis,” so he began surveying a third of NACE’s member companies to learn what those companies expect to be doing in the next quarter.

“We simply ask, ‘How are you changing the amount of new college hires for the next three months’,” Koc said. Results of the latest poll, posted as an index, shows that the index for college hiring stands at 98.2 – up from 87.2 in the November poll.

“The college Class of 2010 is facing a tough job market, but there are signs that college hiring has turned the corner and has stopped receding, as we’ve seen improvement in the hiring index for the third consecutive month,” said Marilyn Mackes, NACE executive director. “This suggests that we may have hit bottom and are slowly starting to rebuild.” Details about the poll are available on the NACE website.
