Enterprise Risk Management Roundtable Summit Scheduled for Nov. 4, 2011

The Enterprise Risk Management Initiative (ERM) at the North Carolina State University Poole College of Management has announced the date for its Fall 2011 ERM Roundtable Summit. It will be held Friday, November 4, at the Marriott City Center, 500 Fayetteville St. in downtown Raleigh, N.C., from 8:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The program includes presentations on enterprise risk oversight in two very different industries – UPS and Mars Candy Co. – as well as a panel discussion on the topic of ‘Moving Up the ERM Maturity Curve,’ and a preview of a forthcoming thought paper on risk appetite, to be published by the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission.

“This program is designed to provide insight and continuing professional development for individuals serving in enterprise-wide risk management leadership roles,” said Dr. Mark Beasley, Deloitte Professor of Enterprise Risk Management and director of the ERM Initiative at Poole College.

“Our corporate presenters, while speaking of enterprise risk management from the perspective of their industry, will be addressing issues that are relevant for all organizations seeking to improve their strategic risk oversight,” he said.

“Our panelists will be going deeper into the topic of how organizations can further strengthen their ERM initiatives, while our special presentation by Larry Rittenberg, COSO chair emeritus and author the forthcoming COSO thought paper on Risk Appetite, will provide insight into how boards of directors and senior executives are articulating their organization’s overall appetite for taking risks,” Beasley said.

The ERM Roundtable Summit presenters are:

  • Keith Cureton, corporate group manager, enterprise risk management, United Parcel Service
  • Larry Warner, risk management lead executive, Mars, Inc.
  • Larry Rittenberg, COSO chair emeritus and author the forthcoming COSO thought paper on Risk Appetite
