Exec Program’s WolfPack Your Lunch series begins this Friday in RTP
"Business Model Development with Big Data" is the topic being discussed Friday, February 28, 2014, during the first in a series of one-hour interactive lunch-and-learn discussion sessions for professionals working in Raleigh and the Research Triangle Park, N.C.
This series is presented by NC State Poole College of Management’s Executive Education program. This series will alternate between locations in RTP and NC State's Centennial Campus in Raleigh.
Participants are asked to arrive by 11:45 a.m. for networking with NC State University faculty and corporate peers. While there is no charge to attend, participants are asked to register online at the NC State Executive Programs website. Coffee and beverages will be provided.
The program will begin at 12 noon with a presentation by the guest speaker, followed by discussion moderated by Dan McGurrin, director of Executive Programs at NC State Poole College. Each session will conclude at 1 p.m. This first session will be held at the headquarters of the Research Triangle Park Foundation, 12 Davis Drive in Research Triangle Park.
Dr. Steve Markham, associate professor in the Poole College’s Department of Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, will give a brief presentation and lead a discussion on the topic.
“Our goal for these sessions is to provide opportunities for professionals to discuss topics relevant to their careers in a casual setting,” McGurrin said. “We are holding the sessions in the two locations to make it easier for individuals working in different areas of the Triangle to participate.”
Future sessions will alternate between two locations: on the second Friday of each month at the Lonnie Poole Clubhouse, 1509 Main Campus Drive on NC State’s Centennial Campus in Raleigh, and on the fourth Friday of each month at the Research Triangle Park Foundation in RTP.
The WolfPack your Lunch series discussions initially will draw from topics in the NC State Executive Education’s Technical Professionals Series (TechPros) program, McGurrin said. “We welcome Triangle area professionals to send topics they would like addressed in future sessions.”
Following are among tentative future topics and their Poole College faculty presenters:
- "Innovation/Design Thinking,” Dr. Jonathan Bohlmann, associate professor of marketing
- "Supply Chain Management," led by Dr. Robert Handfield, Bank of America University Distinguished Professor of Supply Chain Management
- “Leading Generationally Diverse Teams,” Dr. Bradley Kirkman, professor and head, Department of Management Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- “Leading Virtual Teams,” Dr. Bradley Kirkman, professor and head, Department of Management Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Dates for the presentations will be confirmed and posted to the NC State Executive Education website.
About the speaker
Dr. Steve Markham teaches in the Executive Education and Jenkins MBA programs at NC State Poole College, in the areas of leadership, corporate culture, innovation and technology commercialization. He has focused his research on the roles and processes in the front end of technological innovation, concentrating on the role champions take in early commercial development of technology.
A Certified New Product Development Professional, Markham serves as president of the Product Development & Management Association (PDMA) Research Foundation and is founder of the PDMA New Product Development Professional Certification Program. He previously served as PDMA officer and board member, and as director of the Technology, Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Program (TEC) and the Center for Innovation Management Studies (CIMS), both at Poole College. Markham has been a founding board member or officer of numerous high-technology start-up companies and consults with numerous global technology-based companies.
