Jenkins MBA Students Form Finance, Supply Chain Clubs

p. As the NC State Poole College of Managementâs Jenkins MBA program continues to grow, its students are looking for ways to better collaborate and share their resources and talents.

Recently, efforts to do so have led to two new student organizations, the Jenkins MBA Finance Club and the Jenkins MBA Supply Chain clubs. Led by current MBA students and mentored by Poole Colleges faculty members, aim to become the hubs of extracurricular opportunities for students interested in these fields.

The Finance Club, which is led by first year MBA student Jessica Newsome and mentored by Professor Kenneth Marks, wants to provide networking and career advancement opportunities, as well as support finance specific events such as case competitions.

âThe Finance Club was started to fulfill a need,” Newsome same. “Prior to the club, there was no formal or effective way for MBA students who were interested in finance to share knowledge and information, or to engage their interests,â she said.

âThis club will provide MBA students with networking events to connect them with alumni and other professionals working in the financial field. Also, the club will promote opportunities for students to explore their interests in finance by supporting finance electives and case competitions,” Newsome said.

By working with other MBA student organizations, as well as the college’s Jenkins MBA program office, the club will continue to grow and provide value to the students, she said, adding, âThe Jenkins MBA program has been very supportive of our efforts thus far, by giving us access to resources and advising us on events.”

âUltimately, however, the clubâs success will be tied to student involvement,” Newsome said. “As such, we are partnering with other MBA student organizations, like MBA Student Association and the new Supply Chain Club, to promote common events and increase student participation.â

Indranil Chatterjee and Weston Held, students in the Jenkins MBA supply chain management concentration, are leading the new Jenkins MBA Supply Chain Club under the guidance of Supply Chain Resources Cooperative (SCRC) Co-Director Clyde Crider. Their goal also is to involve students in various activities related to thei supply chain field, including community outreach and hosting guest speakers from various supply chain backgrounds.

The main objective of this club is to provide a platform that helps Jenkins MBA students to become well-rounded supply chain professionals, Held said.

Collectively, we will gain knowledge of the supply chain industry, including operations and logistics, by interacting with subject matter experts in the field. Additionally, this club will function as a sustainable source of information related to supply chain management, operations and logistics.

Chatterjee and Held have garnered the support of the Jenkins MBA program and the SCRC, and will also work with other offices affiliated with Poole College, including the General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center.

Clyde has been a pillar of support from the beginning, and is our true patron. We are also delighted to have Dr. Chris Hitch, executive director of the General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center and director in Poole Colleges Executive Programs office, helping us organize our forthcoming events, Chatterjee said.

Ultimately, we realized that our Supply Chain concentration has excellent faculty and industry associations. We felt if we could make an extra effort to work closely with these faculty and with the SCRC, our students would benefit even more from our program; hence, the idea of the creating the Jenkins MBA Supply Chain Club.
