Innovations in Sustainability is Topic of Upcoming CIMS Meeting

The meeting will be held May 25 through 27 at the Marriott City Center in downtown Raleigh, N.C. Registration is open until May 18. View the agenda on the Center for Innovation Management Studies= website.

Sustainability futurist Dennis Walsh, editor of America’s GreenHouse, a renewable energy newsletter, and the Green Philanthropy blog, is a keynote speaker. He is one of nine featured panel and discussion leaders from business, industry and academia who will address different aspects of innovation in sustainability.

“Over the past year, CIMS’ industry partners have been paying particular attention to innovation as it applies to sustainability in business – including the triple bottom line, green initiatives and other issues,” said Paul Mugge, CIMS director and professor of innovation at the NC State College of Management.

“At this meeting, we are bringing in a number of individuals who will lead discussions on current research regarding the impact of sustainability on business and industry. Our discussions will form the foundation of future research activities that CIMS and our partners will undertake in the coming years,” Mugge said.

Following is the complete list of presenters.

  • L. Hunter Lovins, president and founder of Natural Capitalism Solutions and professor at the Presidio School of Management in Sustainable Management, will be the keynote speaker at the featured dinner event.
  • Dennis Walsh, a sustainability futurist with expertise in social entrepreneurship and green philanthropy, will be speaking on the future of sustainability.
  • Nathan Shedroff, chair of the California College of the Arts will be speaking about sustainability’s impact and relationship to business, government, NGO’s design and other areas.
  • Lee Woodard, principal of Next Right Decision LLC, will speak about the concept of the integrative bottom line, also referred to as the triple bottom line.
  • Mark LaCroix, executive vice president of business development at CarbonNeutral, who will address generating business value through effective carbon management.
  • Dr. Nick Hamon, vice president of product and sustainable development at Bayer Crop Sciences, will speak on how to align a large company around a common strategic and cultural goal.
  • Arlan Peters, sustainability manager at Novozymes North America, will discuss building capabilities that will make a difference.
  • Dianne Fodell, program director, innovation and university relations at IBM, will talk about how to build a smarter planet.
  • Paul Sheldon, a colleague of Lovins’ at Natural Capitalism Solutions, will present ideas about energy, water, food and national security in the 21st Century.

Registration fees for this meeting are $400 for CIMS industry members and $300 for non-members. Fees are per person and provide access to the entire meeting. The registration fee is waived for NC State University faculty, staff, and CIMS associates. Map for Marriott City Center.
