NC State ERM Fundamentals workshop to present basics of launching ERM for strategic value

The Enterprise Risk Management Initiative at the NC State University Poole of Management is presenting its next ERM Fundamentals program on March 19-20, 2015, at the Marriott City Center, 500 Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh, N.C.

The "Overview of Enterprise Risk Management Fundamentals: The Basics of Launching ERM for Strategic Value" will provide valuable knowledge about the basic fundamentals of enterprise risk management (ERM) including methods and strategies for strengthening board and management oversight of an entity's emerging enterprise risk exposures.

This high-level workshop, designed for those with minimal understanding of ERM, resembles an MBA-level courses, with lectures and in-class exercises. It provides participants the tools and hands-on training to confidently and competently address their questions regarding effective enterprise-wide risk oversight. Limited to just 50 participants, also provides an intimate and interactive environment that promotes interaction between attendees and speakers and sharing of experiences with colleagues.

The program is designed for business executives representing a variety of management positions within organizations, including board of directors, who want to better understand the fundamental core elements of effective ERM and how ERM differs from traditional risk management approaches.

Participants will gain knowledge about the basic fundamentals of enterprise risk management (ERM) including methods and strategies for strengthening board and management oversight of their entity's emerging enterprise risk exposures. The cost is $1,350.00

The course is taught by faculty who lead the Enterprise Risk Management Initiative at the NC State Poole College of Management, along with guest speakers who lead risk oversight in their organizations.

  • Bruce Branson, associate director, ERM Initiative, speaking on the topics, “Techniques for Identifying Risks,” “Techniques for Assessing Risks” and ”Developing Key Risk Indicators to Monitor Strategic Risks.”
  • Bonnie Hancock, executive director, ERM Initiative, speaking on the topics: “Overview of Effective ERM and Its Connection to Strategy” and “Responding to Risks in Light of the Organization's Risk Appetite.”
  • Billy Hinshaw, director of ERM, Reynolds American, speaking on the topic: “Real World Example: Engaging the Board in Risk Oversight.”
  • John Tartt, assistant vice president of ERM, Carolinas HealthCare System, speaking on the topic: “ERM in Practice: Real-Life Example of Launching ERM.”
