NC State Poole College Announces Inaugural Human Resources Advisory Board

The NC State University Poole College of Management welcomed the members of its inaugural advisory board for the college’s academic program in human resources management during a meeting at the college on January 24, 2014.

The role of the board is to provide advice and counsel to the college’s human resources faculty on matters related to the college’s curriculum in human resources and the program’s engagement with professionals in business and industry. Board members also will be informed of research under way by the faculty, as well as opportunities to collaborate with faculty on research projects.

Welcoming the new board members were Dr. Ira Weiss, dean of the Poole College of Management; Dr. Bradley Kirkman, head of the Department of Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Poole College, and the college’s human resources faculty members Dr. Paul Mulvey, Clint Davidson, and Beth Ritter.

“The involvement of leaders in the business community reflects and supports our philosophy of integrating real world and academic experiences throughout the curriculum. Our board members bring invaluable insight and perspective that will help assure our students receive the knowledge, skills and experiences they need to launch their careers,” Weiss said.

Poole College currently offers a human resources concentration in its bachelor of business administration degree. Following are the members of the inaugural Poole College Human Resources Advisory Board.

  • Bruce Clarke is president and chief executive officer of Capital Associated Industries (CAI), a membership-driven organization that helps North Carolina employers maximize employee engagement and minimize employer liability through human resources and management advice, training, news, survey data, public policy advocacy and consulting services. Clark received his juris doctorate from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his bachelor’s in business administration from the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.
  • Korey Coon, CFA, CCP, has held his current role as human resources director for the Building Construction Products (BCP) Division of Caterpillar Inc. since 2009. BCP is a global organization of more than 3,500 employees responsible for designing, manufacturing and supporting Caterpillar’s line of small, versatile construction machines. He serves on numerous boards, including the Governor’s Talent and Workforce Development Committee, Poole College’s Diversity Board, the North Carolina Community College Foundation. Coon received an Executive MBA from Bradley University and his bachelor’s in risk management and financial services from Illinois Wesleyan University.
  • Len Johnson is assistant vice president of human resources at Duke University and Health System, leading classification and compensation services for 35,000 employees at Duke University and the Duke University Health System, and international HR administration with programs in Singapore, China, and Africa. He received his master’s in education from the University of New Hampshire in counseling and personnel services and his bachelor’s in psychology from State University of New York College at Oswego.
  • Jim Kochanski is a principal at Sibson Consulting, working with organizational effectiveness, performance management, compensation and talent management. He received his bachelor’s in business from the University of Maryland College Park and his master’s in human resource development from American University. He also holds the SPHR designation.
  • Jenn Mann is vice president of human resources at SAS Institute, where she leads a global HR organization that acts as stewards of the SAS culture and engages a global workforce of 14,000 with diverse talents and skills. She is responsible for developing and guiding SAS’s HR vision and articulating the organization’s strategy to help acquire, develop, reward and retain the best talent. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and business from Meredith College.
  • Sue Moynihan, GRP, SPHR, is director of people at Red Hat, the world's leading provider of open source services. Based at Red Hat’s corporate headquarters in Raleigh, N.C., Moynihan leads human resources teams in North America and Latin America that focus on global talent management and engagement initiatives. She received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Nazareth College of Rochester and completed graduate studies in career and human resources development at the Rochester Institute of Technology. 
  • Jeanene Martin is senior vice president of human resources at Wake Med Health and Hospitals. She received her bachelor’s in psychology and master’s in education in guidance and personnel services from NC State University, and her master in public health policy and administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
  • Steve Sons is vice president of human resources at GlaxoSmithKline. He received his bachelor’s in mathematics from the University of Central Oklahoma. At GSK, he is responsible for a broad range of activities that support HR operations for 5,000 US pharmaceuticals employees with a focus on program design and analysis of sales competencies, affirmative action and diversity.
  • Kathleen Williams is human resources manager for university relations at Cisco. She co-leads a 16-member team that focuses on recruiting top talent across 55-plus universities in the U.S. and Canada to fill internship and new hire positions at the company. She received her bachelor’s in organizational management from Eastern University.
