NetApp Internship a Perfect Fit for this MBA Student

Soundararajan, whose concentration is in marketing and supply chain, saw a job posting on the MBA JobLink website on a Friday. NetApp had posted a job asking for somebody with a focus in marketing and technology. The company needed help delivering an entire new application for a current product and service that could fit onto a thumb drive.

As he read and re-read the description of what the company wanted, Soundararajan knew that he was well qualified for the job. Prior to his MBA studies, he worked in a technical role with a company situated directly next door to the NetApp facility in India. The student had met with the executives at NetApp and knew the company very well. He valued their commitment to sustaining a strong corporate culture. NetApp’s reputation as both a technology leader and a great place to work were important factors in his decision.

Soundararajan carefully drafted a cover letter, highlighting his experience and knowledge of NetApp, and had a classmate review it. He then posted the letter that same Friday. The following Monday NetApp called him and conducted an interview that same day. The conversation was extensive, he said, but by Wednesday – less than five days after he first saw the job posting – he received an excellent offer from NetApp.

Soundararajan’s internship started in late May. He is delighted and feels honored to be among the 200-plus student interns working for NetApp in North America this summer, and one of 10 MBA students. He said his biggest hope for his internship is finding ways to gather, analyze and prioritize information. He also wants to learn how to best manage the application within the size of a thumb drive. “This part will be challenging and I will learn a lot, he said.

The internship is 12 weeks in length, with excellent compensation. Because it is based in Raleigh’s Research Triangle Park, he did not have to relocate. Soundararajan couldn’t have asked for a better role and a better payback following his first year of hard work at Poole College’s Jenkins MBA program. “This job is exactly what I had hoped for,” he said.
