Playing Nice in the Generational Sandbox is topic of March 28 Wolfpack Your Lunch discussion

Triangle area professionals are invited to an interactive lunchtime discussion this Friday, March 28, on leading generationally diverse teams.

This lunch and learn session – part of the NC State Executive Program's Woflpack your Lunch Series – will be held at the headquarters of the Research Triangle Park Foundation, 12 Davis Drive in Research Triangle Park. There is no charge to attend, but registration is required and may be completed at the NC State Executive Programs website.

Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch and arrive by 11:45 a.m. for networking with NC State University faculty and corporate peers, prior to the start of the discussion. The program will begin at 12:00 p.m. with a presentation by the guest speaker, followed by discussion, and will conclude at 1 p.m. Coffee and beverages will be provided.

Dr. Bradley Kirkman, professor and head of the Department of Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the NC State Poole College of Management, will lead this session’s discussion, incorporating data and his significant experience in teaching and research on leadership and management of today’s intergenerational workforce and other aspects of workforce culture.

Kirkman has worked with major national and international companies and organizations on issues such as leading global virtual teams, enhancing team effectiveness, working across cultural boundaries, facilitating organizational change and increasing leadership effectiveness.

At the NC State Poole College, he brings his expertise in organizational behavior to the classroom in the Poole College of Management’s Executive Education and Jenkins MBA’s programs.

Dan McGurrin, NC State Executive Programs director, launched the Wolfpack Your Lunch series to provide professionals in the Triangle area an opportunity to discuss topics relevant to their careers in a casual setting. Sessions will be alternating between the RTP and NC State’s Centennial Campus.

About the speaker

Dr. Bradley Kirkman is professor and department head for the Management, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship Department in the NC State University Poole College of Management. He received his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and focuses his research on virtual teams, work team effectiveness, leadership, and international management.

He previously was the Foreman R. and Ruby Bennett Endowed Chair in Business Administration in the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University, and has worked in the College of Management at The Georgia Institute of Technology and the Bryan School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. He has held visiting professor positions in the Department of Management and Organizations at the University of Western Australia in 2006 and the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University in 2012.

His articles have appeared in such journals as the Academy of Management Journal, the Academy of Management Review, the Academy of Management Executive, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Group & Organization Management, Journal of Cross Cultural Psychology, Organizational Dynamics, and others. His book chapters have appeared in: Oxford Handbook of Industrial and Organizational Psychology; Cambridge Handbook of Culture, Organizations, and Work; Advances in International Management; and Handbook of Global Management: A Guide to Managing Complexity.

Kirkman has worked with or taught executive programs for dozens of companies on topics including leading global virtual teams, enhancing team effectiveness, working across cultural boundaries, facilitating organizational change and development, and increasing leadership effectiveness that include. The list of companies span a range of industries, including telecommunications, energy, home improvement, health care, technology, food manufacturers, insurance, and the military.
