Poole College faculty to report on sustainability related teaching, research projects

Seven members of the Poole College faculty will present on sustainability related course modules and research at seminars this month. Their work was funded by curriculum and research grants awarded by the college’s Sustainability Initiative (SI) in 2013.

The Sustainability Initiative Curriculum Development Grant Seminar will be held Wednesday, February 19, from 12:00 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the Nelson Hall Board Room, 3220 Nelson. Presenting on their sustainability related course modules and outcomes will be:

  • Stefanie Robinson: sustainability lecture materials and a related semester-long project for her course, MBA 560: Marketing Management and Strategy.
  • Beth Ritter: incorporating responsible management practices into the curriculum for her course, MIE 432: Labor and Employee (Industrial) Relations.
  • Don Pagach: sustainability writing cases for his courses, ACC 310 & 311: Intermediate Financial Accounting I & II.
  • Thayer Morrill: two separate sustainability-related modules for his course, ECG 790: Economics Advanced Special Topics.

The Sustainability Initiative Research Grant Seminar will be held Thursday, February 20, from 12:00 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the Nelson Hall Board Room, 3220 Nelson.

Presenting on their sustainability related research will be:

  • Michael Stanko: "Sustainable Consumer Behavior: Biochemical Influences on Socially Responsible Consumption." On this research team are Stacy Wood, Stefanie Robinson, and Michael Stanko.
  • Giuseppe Fiori and Nora Traum: "Green Policies, Aggregate Investment Dynamics and Economic Sustainability." 

Deadline for 2014 Awards is March 3

Jessica Thomas, director of Poole College’s Sustainability Initiative, noted that applications are being accepted until March 3, 2014, for 2014-2015 curriculum and research grant awards.

The Sustainability Initiative will provide funding to support research projects, up to $25,000, and curriculum development projects, up to $5,000, for faculty with a majority appointment in the Poole College of Management. Proposal are due on March 3, 2014. Details for these funding opportunities are on the college’s research site.
