Poole College’s accounting programs ranked in top 30

The undergraduate and Jenkins Master of Accounting programs at the NC State Poole College of Management were ranked in the top 30 in the U.S. by Public Accounting Report (PAR), an independent newsletter of the accounting profession.

The MAC Program tied for 32nd overall and 17th in the Big School category, which includes programs with 22 or more full-time accounting faculty members. Poole College’s undergrad accounting program tied for 35th overall and 19th in the Big School category.

PAR surveyed accounting professors at nearly 200 U.S. colleges and university in May and June of 2013 for this ranking.

Last year, the MAC program also tied for 32nd overall, and the undergraduate program was ranked 34th overall.

“These rankings show that our program is consistently considered to be a high quality program by accounting faculty across the nation,” said Dr. Frank Buckless, KPMG professor of accounting and head of Poole College’s accounting department, adding that for the past decade, the college’s programs have been ranked among the top 40 programs nationally.

The PAR survey also provided professors an opportunity to provide feedback to recruiters regarding the recruitment process. Feedback pointed to the need to better show the opportunities available at the recruiting firm, to better align recruiting with the academic schedule and the students’ readiness to make informed career decisions, to provide meaningful internships and externship experiences, and to build relationships with faculty members.

“At Poole College, we are fortunate to have strong relationships with Big 4 and regional accounting firms, as well as companies that recruit our students. Our strong relationship with recruiters provides excellence internship experiences for our students while in the program and outstanding employment opportunities upon graduation,” Buckless said.
