Poole Council Established to Represent All Poole College Students

The Poole Council, the newest student organization in the NC State Poole College of Management, announced its first slate of officers this week.v

The council, which represents all student groups in the college, is the first organization to carry the college’s new name. It did so in honor of the endowed gift presented to the college by Lonnie C. Poole, Jr., founder of Waste Industries USA, Inc.

The council’s officers are Marshall Anthony, president; Alex Overbay, vice president; Stephanie Jackson, secretary; and Alzebeth Roman, treasurer. Anthony is an undeclared freshman in management; Overbay, a sophomore in economics; Jackson, an undeclared sophomore in management; and Roman, a freshman in economics.

The purpose of the Poole Council is to promote communication among student organizations, faculty, and staff; awareness of events and activities within the college; diversity, interaction, and inclusion and values of student groups; and collaboration among organizations. The council is comprised of three separate, but cooperative bodies:

  • The Advisors’ Board – composed of the Coordinator of Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives, Chair, and one faculty representatives from each of the three departments within the College of Management (Accounting, Business Administration, and Economics) rotating bi-annually.
  • The Student Organization Liaison Board – representatives from each of the Poole College of Management student organizations.
  • The Governing Board – students that are annually selected to serve a seat one of seventeen seats — the distribution of seats are as follows: two representing each class (FR, SO, JR, SR), two representing each discipline (BUS, ACC, EC), and three at-large members.

Through the Poole Council, the organizations in the college will be able to receive financial support from the college, collaborate on projects such as NC State’s annual Habitat for Humanity Shack-a-Thon, and encourage others to become more involved by making the general body more aware of events and activities planned by the college.

Following are a number of council’s initiatives:

  • An organizational fair where students can come and learn about all of the different clubs and organizations in the Poole College of Management
  • Disbursements of student organization fees to active clubs in the Poole College of Management
  • Playing an active role in the larger student government scene through participation in activities such as endorsing candidates for the student body president
  • A forum where students can voice their concerns so that important issues can be addressed
