Poole Freshman Caroline Ward on Path toward International Business Dual Degrees

“I have always been independent, so the prospect of living in a completely new place for two years doesn’t really intimidate me,” said Caroline Ward, a freshman working toward the new International Business Dual Degree program at NC State University’s Poole College of Management.

Ward has always been interested in traveling and broadening her knowledge, so she knew that the International Business Dual Degree would be the right program for her undergraduate studies. She is completing her freshman and sophomore years here at NC State. During her junior and senior years, she will study in Germany at the ESB School of Business at Reutlingen University. All her classes there will be in German. In preparation for that, Ward is currently working toward a minor in German as well as a second minor in Spanish, her other foreign language.

Additionally, Ward is interested in summer study at Oxford. “In middle school and the beginning of high school, my dream was to go to Oxford. Apparently, their library is one of the best in the world, and since I’m kind of a nerd, I love libraries. Hopefully, I will get to spend next summer in England.”

Along with her hopes for studying at Oxford, Ward will complete two internships as part of the requirements of the dual degree program. The first internship will start after her sophomore year in a U.S. city of her choice; the second would start the second semester of her junior year located in a major city in German.

When asked about her experiences at NC State so far, Ward states, “I am loving my time at NC State, but I cannot wait to move to Reutlingen, Germany.”

She has been an NC State fan her entire life, with strong family ties to the university. Ward’s sister is a senior at NC State and her father earned his master’s degree in economics in 1987. Professors Ed Erikson and Stephen Margolis were his academic advisors. Caroline Ward is currently taking an economics class taught by Margolis, and says she’s thoroughly enjoying the class.

Ward’s passion for knowledge and travel is reflected in her commitment to her dual degree program. No matter where life takes her, Ward said she will continue to strive to do her best and welcomes the chance to travel and continue to learn.

Poole College’s International Business Dual Degree is offered with the college’s educational partners in the International Partnership of Business School (IPBS). Led by a consortium of 10 international business schools located in Europe and the Americas, it offers undergraduate business management programs that have students completing two years at their home university and two years at a university in a different country. Students completing the academic requirements at the two universities are awarded two degrees, one from each university attended. NC State currently offers a French track with the Reims School of Management and a German Track with Reutlingen University. A Spanish/Mexican and an Italian track are currently under development.
