Poole Students among Honorees at MSA Honors Convocation

Twenty-three Poole College of Management students are among the nearly 350 NC State University first-year students who were honored at the 18th annual Freshmen Honors Convocation hosted by the university’s office of Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) for their academic achievement during the fall 2012 semester.

The first-year students who had self-identified as African American, Native American or Hispanic were recognized for achieving a 3.0 or greater grade point average (GPA) in the fall 2012 semester at NC State.

In addition, college performance awards were presented to colleges that had 50 percent or more of their first-year students in these ethnicities achieving a 3.0 or greater fall semester GPA. Sixty-six percent of Poole College’s students in this population group achieved that goal. This is the 13th year that MSA has presented college awards; Poole College has been recognized consistently since 2005.

The MSA reception program included a keynote presentation by Sarita Brown, president of Excelencia in Education, an organization based in Washington, D.C., whose mission is to accelerate Latino student success in higher education.
