The Value of Innovation is Focus of NC State Poole College’s Fall CIMS Meeting

The Center for Innovation Management Studies at NC State’s Poole College of Management is focusing on the value of innovation at its fall 2012 meeting, to be held October 23 and 24 at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Raleigh, N.C. Registration continues through October 17 and may be completed online. Participants may register for one or more sessions.

Presenters’ topics include what top companies do differently, the disconnect between why consumers buy an innovative product and what firms focus on when innovating, and how one company tested the application of big data analysis to new business development. In addition, students in Poole College’s Jenkins MBA program will give a presentation and poster session on their work on organizational network assessment.

A keynote presentation by the authors of the book Enduring Success: What Top Companies Do Differently, will provide insight gained from their research that identified shared characteristics and features of 1,100 European-based firms, with a follow-up study looking at U.S.-based firms. The authors, Dr. Kurt Matzler, professor of strategic management at the Innsbruck University School of Management, and Dr. Todd Mooradian, professor of marketing at the College of William and Mary’s School of Business Administration, will speak during the afternoon session on October 24, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Also speaking are:

  • Dr. Ricardo Pietrobon, associate professor of surgery and associate vice chair for research processes and innovation, Duke University Medical Center, a new CIMS Research Fellow, and Dr. Michael Kowolenko, CIMS Industrial Fellow and Principal Research Scholar
