Undergrad Supply Chain Scholarship Recipients Recognized

The students were recognized during a recent photo shoot that included examples of the kinds of equipment involved in projects worked on at North Carolina Caterpillar manufacturing plants during their practicum classes in the supply chain management concentration as part of their B.S. in Business Administration degree program.

Building Construction Products Division Learning / Talent Development Manager Clyde Crider arranged to have two machines brought to campus for a photo shoot with the scholarship recipients. The two machines are similar to equipment that student teams worked on during their practicum projects. One of the machines – sporting NC State colors and the university’s Block S logo – has been donated to the university.

The students each received scholarships totaling $2,000 over two semesters.

The supply chain concentration, one of six options in the college’s bachelor of business administration degree program, includes a practicum class that brings teams of students together with company managers to work on projects. Numerous teams of students in the past several years have worked on projects related to new models of Skid Steer and Multi-Terrain Loaders produced at Caterpillar’s North Carolina manufacturing facilities.

The scholarships are part of ongoing s scholarship support that is part of Caterpillar’s involvement with the Supply Chain Resource Cooperative, whose staff helps to coordinate undergraduate and MBA courses in supply chain management, and works with its partner companies on research projects.

The undergraduate scholarship application requirements included a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated involvement in extracurricular activities relating to the field of supply chain management, such as internships or experience in the university’s Cooperative Education Program. Students also were required to write a statement of purpose, explaining their qualifications and involvement in supply chain management activities.
