Wachovia Executive Lecture Series Speakers Announced

The Wachovia Lecture Series presentations are held at the NC State University College of Management auditorium, 3400 Nelson Hall, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. There is no charge to attend. Free parking for this event is available in the Dan Allen Parking Deck on the NC State campus. Driving and parking details are available online at poole.ncsu.edu/about

This fall’s presenters are

  • Robert J. Greczyn Jr., president and chief executive officer, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.

Following is this fall’s Wachovia Executive Lecture Series presentation schedule.

Wednesday, September 23 – Susan Ivey, chairman, president and CEO of Reynolds American Inc., speaking on the topic: At a Crossroads: Public Health Policies and Tobacco Regulation

Monday, October 19 – Alexander M. Cutler, chairman, president and CEO of Eaton Corporation, speaking on the topic: Organizational Transformation and Leadership.

Wednesday, November 11 – Robert J. Greczyn, president and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, speaking on the topic of Leadership.

About our speakers

Susan Ivey, chairman, president and CEO of Reynolds American Inc.

Ivey became chairman of Reynolds American in 2006, and president, chief executive officer and a director of Reynolds American in January 2004. She also served as chairman of RAI’s largest U.S. subsidiary, R.J. Reynolds, from July 2004 through April 2008.Ivey was formerly president and chief executive officer of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation (B&W). With more than 20 years of U.S. and international experience, including serving as head of international brands and director of marketing in China for British American Tobacco. She joined B&W in 1981 as a sales representative, and held various positions prior to her international assignments in 1990. She returned to B&W in 1999 and served as senior vice president of marketing and member of the company’s executive committee prior to becoming president and CEO in January 2001.
Ivey received an MBA degree from Bellarmine University in May 1987 and a bachelor of science in business degree from the University of Florida in 1980.

She serves on the Women’s Leadership Initiative for the United Way of America and is a board member of the United Way of Forsyth County, Winston-Salem YWCA, Senior Services, Inc. in Winston-Salem and Salem College. She also serves on the boards of Wake Forest University, the University of Florida Foundation and RR Donnelley.

Alexander M. Cutler, chairman, president and CEO of Eaton Corporation

Cutler assumed his current position In August 2000, after serving as Eaton’s president and chief operating officer since 1995. He began his career with Cutler-Hammer in 1975 as a financial analyst and became business group controller in 1977, and was made a division controller in 1979. Cutler was appointed plant manager of the Atlanta Assembly Plant in 1980. From 1982 until 1985, he held various managerial positions in Industrial Control and Power Distribution Operations in the United States. In 1986, he was elected president of the Industrial Group, and in 1989, was promoted to president of Eaton’s Controls Group. He was elected executive vice president before becoming Eaton’s president and chief operating officer.

Cutler was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and attended the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University and a Master of Business Administration from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College. Previously, he served as chairman of the Greater Cleveland Partnership, the United Way of Greater Cleveland and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association. He has also served as president of the Yale Alumni Association of Cleveland.

Cutler is a board member of numerous organizations, some of which include DuPont and United Way Services of Greater Cleveland. He has also served on several executive committees, including the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education, the Cleveland Play House, the Greater Cleveland Growth Association and the Museum of Natural History.

Wachovia Executive Lecture Series

Greczyn joined BCBSNC in 1998, bringing 20 years of leadership experience in health care and an understanding of the North Carolina health care market. He was named president in 1999 and became CEO in April 2000.

Since arriving at BCBSNC, Greczyn has helped transform the company’s culture to center around simplification, assistance and empowerment. As a result of his leadership, the company continues to attract new customers and expand its customer base.

Greczyn earned a Masters of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from East Carolina University. He also completed the executive program in health care finance management at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Greczyn serves on the Board of Trustees for BCBSNC, the board of the national Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust Advisory Board, the board of the N.C. New Schools Project, and the board and executive committee of the Triangle United Way. He is chairman of the board of directors for The Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare (CAQH). Greczyn chairs the Research Triangle Regional Partnership and the UNC School of Public Health’s “Carolina First” Campaign Committee, and also serves as vice chair of the Board of Trustees at East Carolina University. He is a director of the N.C. Institute of Medicine.
