Dean’s Letter

At the Poole College of Management, we are fortunate to be part of a community that celebrates excellence, innovation, inclusion, ethical decision-making –– and addresses the challenges of our world by harnessing our varied skills, talents, strengths and experiences. This is how we think and do at NC State.

We’ve had an amazing academic year at Poole College, during which we celebrated our first 25 years as NC State University’s college of management. We’ve become recognized as a place that pairs rigorous data-driven thinking with creative problem-solving; that celebrates innovative approaches to business management education. And we’re just getting started.

Nearly 1,000 undergraduate and graduate management students graduated from Poole College this past May –– armed with a world-class education, on the ground experience, critical analysis skills and a creative, entrepreneurial approach to addressing business problems. I truly believe that through this generation of leaders, we can achieve the extraordinary.

We’ve had an amazing academic year at Poole College, during which we celebrated our first 25 years as NC State University’s college of management.

Guiding these future business leaders are our nearly 100 world-class Poole College of Management faculty. Our faculty are thought leaders with proven success in the private sector. From exploring new technology-enabled teaching methods to partnering with companies large and small to bring real-world challenges to students to publishing in top academic journals –– our faculty are literally driving the upward trajectory of this college.

It is with mixed emotions that I write this letter as I leave the college at the end of July 2018 to take on the position of dean at the Raymond J. Harbert College of Business at Auburn University. This has been an incredibly difficult decision for me, but I go knowing that I leave Poole College in the capable hands of our college leadership team –– and all of our ambassadors near and far.

Provost Arden has named Frank Buckless, currently associate dean of faculty and academic affairs, as interim dean, effective August 1. I share the provost’s confidence that Dean Buckless will ensure business continuity and maintain positive momentum driving our strategic objectives. Dean Buckless is uniquely qualified to take on this leadership role. In addition to being recently promoted into the newly created associate dean position at the college, he has been our department head of accounting for the past several years and also held multiple leadership positions across campus.

Thank you in advance for your support of Dean Buckless, as you have supported me, during this time of transition for the college. And thank you all for all you do for the Poole College of Management.
