Computer Purchase Information for Students

While a laptop is not required for every student at NC State, we strongly recommend that every student invest in their own laptop to excel in their ability to learn.  We have partnered with Lenovo and Microsoft Surface at the NC State Bookstore to provide the best laptop/tablet options for NC State at special education prices. We have also partnered with Apple, but please note that some of the upper-level courses in certain plans of study in the Poole College of Management use software that is not compatible with Apple operating systems.

Windows Based – RECOMMENDED

If a laptop is purchased through the NC State Bookstore, students can receive computer support at the OIT Walk-In Center that includes these areas:

Software

Microsoft Office 365, including full downloadable versions of Office products, is available free for NCSU students from the NCSU Office 365 website.

Antivirus

NC State University requires use of an approved and up-to-date antivirus program for all computers connected to the NC State network.  Anti-virus software recommendations are available at Antivirus Products.
