MR Economics

The Master of Economics (MR) degree is a non-thesis coursework only degree that offers two tracks: the Applied Economics and Policy Analysis Track, and the PhD Preparatory Track.  Students may enroll in the MR degree program on either a full-time or part-time basis. Full-time students can finish the program in 3 or 4 semesters. 

Applied Economics and Policy Analysis Track

Students choosing the Applied Economics and Policy Analysis Track will complete a quantitatively rigorous core sequence that includes two semesters of econometric analysis. In their last semester, these students will also complete Economic Writing, a course designed to provide hands-on experience combining analytical techniques and theory in a research setting.  Four of the MR applied economics and policy analysis core courses (ECG 505, ECG 506, ECG 561, and ECG 562) are offered during evening hours.

Elective Courses

An additional four courses (12 credit hours) of electives are required, including at least two courses (6 credit hours) of ECG electives (at the 500 or 700 level).

PhD Preparatory Track

Students following the PhD Preparatory Track will receive thorough training in economic theory lending them the tools required to excel in doctoral level study. The PhD Preparatory Track requires students to complete at least two doctoral level elective courses.

Elective Courses

An additional five courses (15 credit hours) of electives are required, including at least three courses (9 credit hours) of ECG electives, two of which (6 credit hours) are at the 700 level.
