Poole College’s Fall 2016 career fair attracted 1,382 students to the McKimmon Center on Friday September 23, taking advantage of the opportunity to meet recruiters hiring for full time positions and internships, said Brian Newton, director of undergraduate career and internship development in the college's Office of Undergraduate Programs.

“This is an opportunity to make really good connections and to get students comfortable articulating their values and tell employers what they have to offer,” Newton said.

Students also participated in a number of activities leading up to the career fair, including five rounds of the college's Resume Blitz, a series that brought in recruiters from five companies to review and critique student resums. The college's Peer Career Coaches also sponsored a Career Fair Boot Camp and held regular drop-in hours to review resumes of fellow students.. Students also attended the colege's Professional Development Expo held at Talley Student Union, with 12 companies preseting workshops on career and professional development.

This was also the third year that Poole College students used a Career Fair app to get the most out of their time at the Career Fair. “It is a great tool for students to navigate and prepare for the career fair,” Newton said. “The advantages of the app are that students are able to make a favorites list instead of taking a piece of paper with them and they are able to take notes about the companies they like.”

There were about 570 users on the day of the career fair.

Newton encourages the students to attend the college's career fairs because they provide a ‘win-win situation.” Companies are excited to meet the students and there is not another environment where more than 100 companies are going to want to potentially hire students.

Students are encouraged to save the date for next semester’s career fair, to be on February 3, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McKimmon.
