College Moves Up In BusinessWeek’s Undergraduate Rankings

To identify the top undergraduate business programs, Bloomberg BusinessWeek uses a methodology that includes nine measures of student satisfaction, postgraduate outcomes, and academic quality.

Beginning in November 2009, nearly 88,000 graduating seniors in the 139 schools eligible for ranking were surveyed by Bloomberg BusinessWeek on a number of topics, from quality of teaching to recreational facilities. The student survey had a 31 percent response rate. Results of the current survey were combined with survey responses from 2009 and 2008 to produce a combined student ranking of 95 for the current survey.

Bloomberg BusinessWeek also surveyed 718 corporate recruiters, asking which programs turn out the best graduates, which had the most innovative curricula and the most effective career services. This survey had a 33 percent response rate, and the results were also combined with the responses to the two previous years’ surveys to produce a combined recruiter ranking of 16.
As part of its communications regarding the rankings, Bloomberg BusinessWeek invited students at the ranked business schools to submit a short video providing commentary about their school.

Several NC State College of Management undergraduate students accepted the opportunity and spent a day and a half interviewing their peers in the college to provide an inside perspective. Their theme: “NC State’s College of Management is the Number One undergraduate business school to attend.”

Key organizers include Casey Brucken, Jim Crawford, Lauren Ginsberg, Kadeem Myrick, all seniors majoring in business administration, along with Jamell Culler, a freshmen majoring in business administration. Luke McIntyre, a senior in NC State’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences majoring in arts application with a minor in music, produced the soundtrack and did the editing.
