College of Management Faculty Recognized for Scholarship

  • Dr. Mark Beasley, Deloitte Professor of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and director of the ERM Initiative in the NC State College of Management, received the 2010 American Accounting Association’s (AAA) Distinguished Contributions to the Accounting Literature Award. He received the award at the association’s annual meeting in San Francisco in August. He received the award for his research regarding the relationship between board of director composition and financial statement fraud, published in The Accounting Review in 1996. The paper had previously received the 1995 AAA Competitive Manuscript Award. Read more
  • Dr. Marianne Bradford, associate professor of accounting in the NC State College of Management, has won the Best Education Paper award at the American Accounting Association Information Systems (IS) Section Midyear Conference. Her paper was titled “North Carolina State University: Implementing PeopleSoft Student Information System.” Read more She also was named one of five ‘Influencers’ of ERP to Track in 2010 by Focus.com.
  • Dr. Joseph Brazel, associate professor of accounting, received a Best Paper Award at the 2010 Inaugural Conference on Financial Reporting, Auditing and Governance.
  • A paper co-authored by Dr. Al Chen, professor of accounting, was on SSRN’s Top Ten Download list for CGN: Securities Regulation. The paper, A Comparison of XBRL Filings to Corporate 10-Ks – Evidence from the Voluntary Filing Program, has been on the top ten list since August 2009.
  • Dr. Jeffrey Stonebraker, assistant professor in the NC State University College of Management’s Department of Business Management, has been elected as a charter fellow in the Society of Decision Professionals (SDP). Read more
  • Dr. Walter Thurman, a William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professor in the NC State College of Management’s Department of Economics, has been named a 2010 fellow of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA). He received this award – AAEA’s most prestigious honor – for his contributions to agricultural and natural resource economics. The award was presented at the association’s 2010 meeting in July 2010.
