CONSUMER INNOVATION CONSORTIUM

Poole College’s newest initiative is the Consumer Innovation Consortium (CIC), led by Dr. Stacy Wood, Langdon Professor of Marketing, executive director, and Dr. Colbey Reid, director.

CIC is building academic-corporate partnerships that deliver state-of-the-art consumer research to corporate leaders in marketing and design innovation. It also provides recruiting access to a generation of uniquely trained business graduates who combine strategic consumer behavior knowledge with the latest research and design techniques.  CIC’s inaugural corporate partners are AmerisourceBergen, Bayer CropScience, The Clorox Company, and Cotton Incorporated.

The CIC computer-based research laboratory, located in Nelson Hall, builds on Wood’s experience into how individuals process new product information and their emotional reactions to new innovations, trends, or customs. Her work is complemented by the expertise of Colbey Reid, who joined the college as CIC director in January 2013. Reid’s research in culture and innovation will help CIC to foster interdisciplinary alliances with the business community, especially in design and the liberal arts. Reid is working with company partners, overseeing their research projects and coordinating the work of CIC Fellows, other graduate students and affiliated faculty members.

Two marketing students in the college’s Jenkins MBA program have had a significant role in preparing CIC for its initial research projects. During the 2011-2012 academic year, Hollie Jones (Jenkins MBA 2012) was a graduate assistant working with Wood to get the lab and research procedures in place.  < http://www.poole.ncsu.edu/index-exp.php/news/article/poole-lab-focuses-on-consumer-response-to-product-information-innovation/>. This year, Jenkins MBA student Jackelyn Vander Veer, who is graduating in May 2013, continued that work as CIC’s first Marketing Fellow, and coordinated the consortium’s first research projects.
