Gift from Credit Suisse Funds Installation of Financial Data Center at Poole College

Students and other visitors to the Poole College of Management interested in tracking the latest business news and financial data just need to look to the west wall of the college’s Nelson Hall Student Commons and Port City Java Café. That’s where the Credit Suisse Financial Center was installed in late December, 2011, funded by a generous gift from Credit Suisse.

On January 11, 2012, representatives from Credit Suisse stopped by to check out the new display and participate in a brief reception attended by Poole College faculty, staff and several students.

The data center includes a stock ticker and data board, LCD screen displaying business news, and display unit that houses the equipment. It provides a continuous stream of stock market data and business news during the college’s normal weekday hours.

“As a business school, it is important for our community of students, faculty and staff to have timely access to news that impacts the global and local economy, including market transactions,” said Dr. Ira R. Weiss, dean of the college. “Placing this data center in our Nelson Hall Commons, which includes the Port City Java Café, provides easy access to this information not only for those in Poole College but also those at this side of campus who frequent the café. We are very grateful to Credit Suisse for their gift which made this installation possible.”

Credit Suisse and Poole College have developed a strong relationship since the leading global financial services company, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, opened its Center of Excellence in Research Triangle Park, N.C., in 2005. It has grown its workforce to over 1,100 employees, including graduates of Poole College’s master and undergraduate programs recruited for their specialized, technical finance skill sets. Credit Suisse also has employees enrolled in the college’s Jenkins part-time Masters of Business Administration program for working professionals.

“This financial news board is a symbol of the partnership that has developed between NC State and Credit Suisse as we established and grew our presence in the Triangle over the past six years,” said Jim
Captain, Raleigh site executive for Credit Suisse. “It was the region’s robust university system and the strength of the business and engineering resources that drew us to RTP in 2005. Our success here can be directly attributed to the quality of the people that have joined us. NC State should be very proud, and we are certainly appreciative, of the role you play in the development of our region’s workforce,” Captain said.
