Henard Named Director of International Programs

The new position was created to manage the college’s ever-broadening international academic programs. Earlier this year, Henard was named academic director of the college’s Master of Global Innovation Management program (MGIM) that was launched this fall.

As director of the college’s International Programs, he said that he hopes to include students, faculty and staff in the further development of the MGIM program and other international opportunities.

Henard was part of a global team that conceptualized, developed, and launched the international, dual-degree MGIM program. Henard’s background in business was helpful in that development process. “I come from a business background and can approach the task from both an academic and industrial perspective, which will hopefully benefit a wider College of Management audience,” he said.

Now that the MGIM program is under way, Henard is working on developing it further. “We are currently seeking to expand this program by adding a third partner on a different continent, with an eye towards continued, controlled expansion over the next several years,” he said. He has recently met in France with an international consortium of universities to discuss the possibility of replicating the MGIM program format for undergraduate students.

Currently, the MGIM program collaborates with Université Paul Cézanne near Aix, France. When asked why the college chose to send the students in the program to France, he said, “The College of Management had an existing relationship with our French partner university. Both colleges are top-rated public business schools, both specialize in teaching business to technically-oriented students, and both are in beautiful parts of the world.”

The first cohort of students in the MGIM program is currently studying in France.

Henard said that the program is “going fantastically! We recruited a truly unique and talented group of students for this first class. Students from around the world are currently in classes at our partner school, the Universite Paul Cezanne in Puyricard, France. They will all come to NC State for the spring semester.” He also noted that students interested in being a part of future MGIM cohorts can check out the program on the college’s website, as well as on Facebook and YouTube.

Henard encourages students to consider the benefits of the program. “The MGIM program offers students from all disciplines the opportunity to hone critical business skills, improve business communication skills, develop an international perspective, and boost their creativity and project management skills,” he said. “The world of business is truly global and we need to provide our students with globally-oriented training so that they will be competitive in the marketplace.”
