Jenkins MBA Alumna Presents Opportunity to Help Disadvantaged Women Seeking Jobs

Molly Glasgow, who received her MBA from the NC State Poole College of Management in 2012, is part of a group of young professional women with a passion for helping others.  Molly serves on the start-up committee for Women for Success (WFS), a recently formed giving network that supports the efforts of Dress for Success Triangle NC.

Both groups believe that poverty in the Triangle can be eliminated and are working daily to do just that. In the last four years, Dress for Success Triangle NC has helped more than 3,600 women gain the skills and assets needed to get back on the employment fast track, Glasgow said. Nearly half have returned to work and in so doing, have raised themselves and their children out of abject poverty.

Dress for Success Triangle NC, founded April 2008, promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women succeed in work and in life.  Much of the professional attire provided to Dress for Success clients is acquired through the donation of gently used garments. WFS aims to complement this organization’s work by raising funds to purchase stockings and undergarments, as these items that cannot be donated used.

WFS’s first fundraising event – Wine, Cheese & $20 Please – will be held Thursday, March 28, at Spy Raleigh, 330 W. Davie Street in downtown Raleigh, N.C., starting at 6 p.m. Wine and appetizers will be provided, and raffle tickets will be on sale for $2 each. Registration information can be found at wfstriangle.eventbrite.com; the site includes the option to buy event tickets or to make a donation.

Through quarterly social events like the upcoming wine and cheese social, Women for Success has set a goal to contribute $12,000 to Dress for Success Triangle in 2013, filling revenue gaps and supporting the purchase of undergarments for more than 600 clients.  To learn more about the organization’s activities, you can follow Women for Success on Twitter @WFSTriangle.
