Lauren Brown to receive national academic advising award

Lauren Brown, PhD., associate director of advising in the NC State University Poole College of Management, has been selected as a 2014 National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Outstanding Advising Awards – Academic Advising Administrator Certificate of Merit recipient. The award recognizes her demonstrated abilities as an advisor in a nationwide competition, consistently displaying the qualities associated with the outstanding advising of students.

This award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising administration. Academic advising administrators includes individuals who provide direct academic advising services but whose primary responsibility is as an administrator of an academic advising program.

Brown will be presented the certificate of merit during the National Academic Advising Association’s meeting in fall 2014.

Earlier this year, Brown received NC State University Advising Administrator Award, recognizing her leadership role in the college’s Office of Undergraduate Programs.

“Dr. Brown’s skills and commitment to student advising benefit not only her advisees, but all students in the Poole College,” said Dr. Shannon Davis, associate dean for undergraduate programs in Poole College, at the time. “Programs that are now an integral part of our students' college experience – weren't always. She was instrumental in developing our first-year student course, Professionalism, Diversity and Academic Success in Management, as well as in introducing the Poole Peer Leaders, Student Network Groups, and our developmental advising model. Of course, her advisees realize how great she is, but this award makes us all aware of her many contributions to Poole College and NC State.”
