Lowe’s Companies, Inc. is named Poole College’s 2014 Employer of the Year

The NC State University Poole College of Management has selected Lowe’s Companies, Inc. to receive the college’s second annual Employer of the Year award. The award was presented to Lowe’s representatives as part of Poole College’s Sixth Annual Leadership and Innovation Showcase held April 15, 2014.

Recruiters are invited to attend the annual showcase, to see and discuss with students the kinds of real world projects they are completing for sponsor companies as well as their own entrepreneurial ventures. In 2013, the college began recognizing one company with an Employer of the Year award in recognition of the value that all companies provide through their ongoing engagement with the college. The 2013 Employer of the Year award recipient was IBM.

Lowe's was selected through a competitive process based on its long-standing relationship with academic programs throughout Poole College, and active engagement with the college's career development team and students through a wide range of career development activities.

Accepting the award on behalf of Lowe’s were four of the company’s senior human resources executives: Cedric Coco, senior vice president for human resources; Brian Emerson, vice president for talent acquisition; Thaddeus Jones, director of talent acquisition and college recruiting, and Mark Clark, senior college recruiter.

“College recruiting is a strategic part to our growth and recruitment efforts for future talent,” Jones said in his acceptance remarks on behalf of Lowe’s. “We are looking for pioneering spirits to join us on our journey,” he said.

“Our college team has been able to identify, select, and hire this talent at NC State by developing a strong relationship with North Carolina State University and the Poole College of Management (through) partnering and participating in on-campus activities including career fairs, mock interviews, resume reviews, company presentations, company dinners, and on-campus interviews,” he said.

“The strong on-campus relationship with North Carolina State University is a result of the collaborative efforts with (Lowe’s) leadership to establish and brand Lowe’s as an ‘employer of choice’ for talent. In return, you have provided Lowe’s with exceptional talent to meet our growing talent needs,” Jones said.

Lowe’s, which began as a small-town hardware store in 1946, is now a FORTUNE® 100 company with over 1,800 stores and 260,000 employees worldwide. “Partnerships with colleges and universities, such as NC State University, allow us to fill intern and full-time positions across the country,” he said, particularly in the areas of information technology, merchandising and marketing, finance and accounting, supply chain and distribution, and store operations.
