National Economics Association Honors Dr. Walter Thurman

Thurman was recognized as an AAEA Fellow – AAEA’s most prestigious honor – for his contributions to agricultural and natural resource economics. The award was presented at the association’s 2010 meeting in July 2010.

Thurman’s research focuses on the causes and effects of government programs such as tobacco and peanut quotas, the honey subsidy and the Clean Air Act. He has published on welfare economics, agricultural contracts and futures markets.

Thurman has served or on chaired more than 60 doctoral and 30 master’s degree committees. He has served as editor and senior associate editor of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics and as an editorial board member for Choices. In 2003, he was awarded the prestigious Julian Simon Fellowship from the Property and Environment Research Center, where he now is a senior fellow.
