Essay Competition to Showcase Businesses Committed to Social Responsibility and Ethics

A total of $500 will be awarded to students submitting the best essays in this new competition sponsored by the Business Ethics Society, an NC State student organization.

“The students are invited to write a ‘letter of recommendation’ about a North Carolina business that they feel has made a significant commitment to go beyond profit-making in order to improve the quality of life in a North Carolina Community,” said Greg Young, faculty advisor to the Business Ethics Society and associate professor in the NC State College of Management’s Department of Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

The essay must:

– be about a for-profit business

– identify a North Carolina point of contact in that business

– tell the reader why the business deserves to be recognized as a NC Champion of Social Responsibility and Ethics

The entries will be judged on the student’s quality of communication and the quality of business citizenship described in the essay. Entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. on April 22, 2009, via email to Greg Young.
