NC State Poole College Announces Speakers for Fall 2011 Wells Fargo Executive Lecture Series

The Poole College of Management at North Carolina State University has announced the speakers for its fall 2011 Wells Fargo Executive Lecture Series. The series, previously called the Wachovia Executive Lecture Series, was renamed following the merger of Wachovia and Wells Fargo.

Presenters this fall are Chuck Swoboda, chairman and chief executive officer of Cree, speaking September 14, and Roger W. Ferguson, Jr., president and chief executive officer of TIAA-CREFF, speaking November 2. Their presentations begin at 4:30 and conclude with a question/answer session with the audience. The program ends at 5:00 p.m.

Wrapping up this fall series is John G. Stumpf, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Wells Fargo & Company. Stumpf will speak at 4:15 p.m. and then take questions from the audience, concluding at 5:15 p.m.

“We are very appreciative of the support that Poole College has received, first from Wachovia and now Wells Fargo, to make this executive lecture series possible,” said Ira R. Weiss, dean of Poole College. Nearly 100 executives have discussed their perspective on leadership in relation to their organizations and industry since the series began in 1992.

The lectures are presented in the college’s auditorium, 3400 Nelson Hall, 2800 Founders Drive, at the corner of Hillsborough Street and Dan Allen Drive in Raleigh, N.C. There is no charge to attend and reservations are not required. Parking is available in the Dan Allen Parking Deck on NC State’s campus. *Chuck Swoboda *

Chuck Swoboda has devoted his career to evolving Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) from a technology to a business. Since joining Cree in 1993, he has held numerous executive positions influencing and leading Cree’s culture, technology and business from near start-up to today’s market leadership. As chairman and CEO, he continues to guide Cree’s leadership in the LED revolution, setting the stage to make energy-wasting traditional lighting technologies obsolete through the use of energy-efficient, environmentally friendly LED lighting. He joined Cree in 1993 and has held numerous executive positions influencing and leading Cree culture, technology and business from near start-up to today’s market leadership.

Roger W. Ferguson, Jr.

Prior to his current role at TIAA-CREF – the leading provider of retirement services in the academic, research, medical, and cultural fields and a Fortune 100 financial services organization – Roger Ferguson was head of financial services for Swiss Re, chairman of Swiss Re America Holding Corporation, and member of the company’s executive committee. He has served as vice chairman of the Board of Governors of the U.S. Federal Reserve System, voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee, chair of the Financial Stability Forum, and chair of numerous Federal Reserve Board committees.

John G. Stumpf

John Stumpf is a 29-year veteran of Wells Fargo, starting in the loan department of its predecessor, Norwest Corporation, in 1982. He held leadership roles at Norwest and became head of the Southwestern Banking Group when Norwest merged with Wells Fargo in 1998. He led the integration of Wells Fargo’s acquisition of First Security Corporation in 2000, and in 2008 led one of the largest mergers in history with the purchase of Wachovia. He was named chairman of Wells Fargo & Company in 2010, after previously being named CEO, board member and president.
