NC State Poole College of Management extends AACSB accreditation

RALEIGH, N.C. – April 1, 2015 — AACSB International announced today that the North Carolina State University Poole College of Management has extended accreditation of its accounting and business programs.

Achieving accreditation is a process of rigorous internal review, engagement with an AACSB assigned mentor and peer review. Extension of accreditation follows a similar rigorous process, assuring that the school remains focused on developing and implementing a plan aligned with AACSB’s Accreditation standards in the areas of strategic management and innovation; participants (students, faculty, and staff); learning and teaching; and academic and professional engagement.

Schools also must show alignment with 15 global accreditation standards while demonstrating how they achieve success within each of the three pillars on which AACSB accreditation rests—engagement, innovation, and impact, said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International.

Poole College’s business programs, including accounting, were initially accredited by AACSB in 2000 and completed what had previously been called the accreditation maintenance review process in 2010. In that year, Poole College’s accounting program sought and received separate accreditation, which requires the satisfaction of an additional set of standards that are specific to the discipline and profession of accounting.

“Extension of our accreditation reflects the ongoing commitment of our faculty and professional staff to continuous improvement, assuring that we are providing a high quality learning experience for our students and that our faculty is making an impact through their teaching, research and engagement,” said Ira R. Weiss, Stephen P. Zelnak Dean’s Chair and dean of the Poole College of Management.

“Engagement, innovation and impact – key components of effective education in today’s dynamic business environment – are integral to both our research and to how we prepare our undergraduate and graduate students for leadership in their careers and their communities,” Weiss said.
Poole College is one of 86 business schools whose accreditation extension was approved by the AACSB board of directors and announced today.
