NC State’s American Marketing Association to host “Meet the Pros” Networking Event

The student chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) at the NC State Poole College of Management is hosting its biannual “Meet the Pros” networking event at the NC State McKimmon Center on November 14, 2013, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The event offers students an opportunity to network with marketing professionals in the area and create connections that may lead to internships and job opportunities. It is open to all NC State and area college students interested in the marketing and allied professions.

There is no charge for those who are members of the NC State AMA student chapter; the cost is $5 for non-members, payable by cash or check at the door. For more information and to register, visit the “Meet the Pros” page on the NC State AMA chapter website. Attire is business professional.

“Meet the Pros is a unique career event that allows students to have a deeper conversation with employers than is possible at a busy career fair, where hundreds of people are competing to talk with one company representative,” said Maggie Martin, president of the AMA student chapter.

“While the professionals attending will be primarily from marketing and advertising companies, we encourage students from all majors to attend,” she said. “Many students may find that their majors are quite relevant to the positions these representatives are looking to fill.”

John Hardy, vice president of finance for the student chapter, attended “Meet the Pros” last year. “It was the first time I actually felt like I made a lasting connection,” he said of his conversations with the professionals at that event.

“I still have a great relationship with one of the employers I met and often send him my updated resume for suggestions and advice,” Hardy said. “In our current competitive job market it is critical to make such connections and start building a network.”

More than 20 companies have registered to participate thus far, including: Apogee Social Media, Axiom Payment Solutions, Bryce Williams Agency, Carolina Railhawks, CTG/Lenovo, Durham Bulls, E & J Gallo Winery, FatCat Strategies, Fastenal, Federated Insurance, Gibbs & Soell Business Communications, Greasecycle, IBM, Largemouth Communications, MMI Public Relations, NeoNova, Net Centrics, Northwestern Mutual, Qualified Builders, Red Hat and ROI Revolution.

Employers interested in participating may contact Ayla Burgett, vice president of programs, NC State student chapter, American Marketing Association.
