Nearly 100 Attend Poole College’s First AKPsi Alumni Reunion

The AKPsi reunion was held Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the Sparians Bowling Boutique & Bistro, an upscale bowling and entertainment venue in Raleigh’s North Hills area. Sparians was co-founded, coincidentally, by one of the chapter’s brothers, Chris Angel (’91), and opened for business in January.

About 90 people attended the reunion, with 70 of those being AKPsi alumni, said Vicki Burrows, director of alumni relations and special events for the Poole College of Management. “This was a great turnout for our first gathering of AKPsi alumni,” she said, adding, “I appreciate the work of this year’s officers and the many other volunteers who helped to make this event so successful.”

Among those attending were four founding AKPsi members:

  • William Laundon (’83), broker with MVP Insurance Group in Apex, N.C.
  • Jim Millican (’83), president and chief executive officer, Smoothieville Ventures, based in Raleigh, N.C., Bobby Puryear (’83), director of Poole College’s undergraduate economics programs
  • Andy Wimberley (’83), account manager at CompuGroup Medical USA, in Raleigh, N.C.;

Angel welcomed his fellow brothers to the venue. He serves as managing partner, chief financial officer and chief marketing officer. A local entrepreneur, he previously held sales and marketing positions for global software companies.

With a slide show presenting a visual history of the NC State AKPsi chapter’s history running on Sparians’ many screens, reunion participants caught up with former classmates and met other brothers while fitting in a few sessions at the bowling lanes, cornhole boards and other games. They also were able to take home some AKPsi memorabilia that had been brought to the event from Nelson Hall.

The reunion was organized by current members of the AKPsi executive board:

  • Derek McLamb, president
  • Colton Tingen, executive vice president
  • Rick Jackson, vice president of corporate affairs
  • Cooper Reeves, vice president of finance
  • Taryn Szarek, vice president of corporate administration
  • Grayson Allison, vice president of marketing
  • Alex Andrason, vice president of alumni relations.

  • Gillian Tremblay
  • Michael Scott
  • Amanda Dew
  • Will Yeatts
  • Briana Clyne
  • Bridgette Macapagal
  • Kristin Yates
  • Kathryn Daniel
