Poole College announces new International Speaker Series

The NC State University Poole College of Management announces a new speaker series for all NC State students interested in learning about the international business experiences of executives with global companies. This series is presented by NC State's Alexander Hamilton Scholars, The International Business Club and the Poole College of Management. Following are the fall 2013 presenters.

Trent Hurst | October 3

Trent Hurst, senior director of global marketing for the Sally Hansen Cosmetics Brand at Coty Beauty, is speaking at 7 p.m. on October 3, 2013, in 2405 Nelson Hall.

Raised in a town of 1,500 people south of Wichita, Kansas, Hurst received his bachelor of arts degree in French and international affairs from Wichita State University and then taught for a year in France. He later received his MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University, specializing in marketing and international business. Hurst began his 17-year career in cosmetic marketing and has worked with more than 10 female and one male beauty categories, including Revlon, L’Oreal, and now Coty, a 109-year-old international beauty company.

Ken Torok | November 1

Ken Torok, president of UPS Asia Pacific, is speaking at 4:30 p.m. on November 1, 2013, in 1130 Nelson Hall.

A native of Long Island, New York, Torok graduated with a degree in business and economics from NC State University. He and his wife Sharon reside in Singapore.

In his current role, Torok is responsible for all UPS operations in more than 40 countries and territories across the globe, including UPS owned operations, joint ventures and agent relationships throughout the region. He has been in this position since 2003. Previously, he held several managerial roles with UPS in Europe, and played a key role in the integration of the company’s ground and air operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Torok began his career with UPS in the U.S. in 1975 in the company’s East Carolina district, followed by roles of increasing responsibility, including hub manager in Wisconsin, managing director of UPS Utah and managing director of UPS South Florida. The South Florida area is one of the company’s busiest and most diverse operations and is UPS’s gateway to Latin America. In this capacity, Torok played a key role in the integration of UPS package delivery, logistics, warehousing, freight forwarding, brokerage and airline operations.
