Poole College hosting students from Shanghai University’s

The NC State Poole College of Management is hosting 19 students as along with a professor and staff member from Shanghai University's Sydney Institute of Language and Commerce for a three-week international summer program focused on sustainability. 

Their schedule includes presentations by Poole College faculty and staff. Jessica Thomas, director of the college’s Sustainability Initiative, presented the first lecture on July 15. Also presenting lectures on sustainability topics are Poole College professors Scott Showalter and Gilroy Zuckerman, accounting and Eda Kemahlioglui-Ziya, supply chain. Louis Ferretti, director of environmental compliance in IBM’s integrated supply chain unit, will give an industry presentation. Poole College students who had studied in China this summer returned to campus to mentor the Chinese students during their stay at Poole College.

The students’ schedule includes a series of Green Enterprise lectures presented by their accompanying faculty, focusing on drivers for change, stakeholders' view, product service system and extended producer responsibility, to help companies move towards sustainability. The groups also will visit Nomacorc, LLC and John Deere to learn how both companies are working to develop sustainable business models and how they companies are engaging in the Chinese market. In addition, the group will visit HQ Raleigh, an entrepreneurial incubator, where they will meet with several entrepreneurs who are launching sustainability focused businesses.

In addition to visiting local sights in Raleigh and the Triangle region, the group will visit Washington, D.C., and Wrightsville Beach . The study group arrived July 13 and will be departing August 3.
