Poole College MAC Program’s Jared Plummer selected for American Institute of CPAs Leadership Academy

Jared Plummer, CPA, has been selected as one of 36 CPAs under age 36 to participate in the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) fourth annual Leadership Academy in Durham, N.C. this fall.

Plummer, a 2007 graduate of the Jenkins Master of Accounting program at the North Carolina State University Poole College of Management, is assistant director of admissions for the MAC program. He had joined the program’s staff in December 2011, following four year’s professional service with the audit staff at Ernst & Young’s Raleigh, N.C. office. Plummer received his bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration from Poole College in 2005.

He will join rising stars in the accounting profession from across the country to learn leadership theory and strategic planning techniques, develop tools for handling complex management challenges and discuss the most important issues facing CPAs and the accounting industry.

Leadership Academy participants will be joined by some of the profession’s most influential leaders, including AICPA Chairman Greg Anton, CPA, CGMA, and Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA, the Institute’s President and CEO.

“The future of the profession will depend largely on the ability of young CPAs to harness their passion and develop into effective leaders,” ‘Anton said. “With the Leadership Academy, the AICPA is ensuring that these young leaders are given the tools and guidance they need to take the reins and lead the profession into the future.”

The AICPA selected the 36 attendees of the Leadership Academy from more than 90 candidates recommended by their employers, state CPA societies or both. Plummer had been recommended by the NC Association of CPAs. Candidates submitted a statement explaining why participating in the Leadership Academy would be important to them personally, as well as resumes including work history, licensure information, professional volunteer activities, community service, and awards and honors.

“With the help of the Academy, I hope to become a vital member of the core leadership within the Poole College of Management, the North Carolina Association of CPAs, and the various organizations I continue to be a part of,” Plummer said. “The motto at the NCACPA is to connect, impact, and grow, and I believe that I will do that very thing at the Academy. I look forward to connecting with other emerging leaders from around the country, impacting the next generation of CPAs, and growing in my knowledge and application of leadership principles.”

“I congratulate Jared on being selected for this tremendous experience,” said Dr. Frank Buckless, head of the NC State Poole College’s Department of Accounting. “It reflects well on the professionalism and leadership that he has already exhibited, and will enable him to bring even greater value to his role within Poole College and our academic programs.”

The American Institute of CPAs Leadership Academy will be held from September 30 to October 4, 2012, at the Washington Duke Inn in Durham, N.C. Additional information is available at AICPA.org.

Plummer is originally from Stokesdale, N.C.
