Poole College undergraduate students have a new associate dean
The start of the new year marked the start of a new role for Tamah Morant, teaching associate professor of economics at Poole College. On January 1, she became the new associate dean for undergraduate programs at the college.
In this role, Morant provides leadership to the Office of Undergraduate Programs' student services team that helps assure a quality learning and professional development experience for the college’s 3,000-plus undergraduate students.
Her new role builds on Morant's prior experience on the fourth floor of Nelson Hall, where NC State’s Economics Graduate Program is based. She was director of that program, which Poole College’s Department of Economics offers jointly with the Department of Agricultural and Resources Economics in NC State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, from 2009 through 2015 and as assistant director from 2009 through 2015 and as assistant director from 1999 through 2009.
She also taught undergraduate economics courses at Poole College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received her master’s and doctoral degrees in 1999 and 2005, respectively. Morant received her bachelor’s degree in economics cum laude with honors in economics from Wake Forest University in May 1993.
Her areas of research interest are in applied microeconomics, economics of educaton and household economics. Recent reseaerch has focused on pedagogy and student learning in economics and developing programs to help graduate teaching assistants in economics to be more effective.
Morant fills a vacancy created when Shannon Davis, professor of human resources, announced last year that she would be stepping down from the administrative role after 10 years and returning to the college’s teaching faculty. Richard Warr, professor of finance and head of the Department of Business Management, had served as interim associate dean for the past several months.
