Poole College Welcomes Nearly 40 New Members to Beta Gamma Sigma, the Business Honor Society

Thirty-eight students and two faculty members in the NC State University Poole College of Management were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) on April
14, 2012, at NC State’s E. Carroll Joyner Visitor Center in Raleigh, N.C.

Induction into BGS – the international academic honor society – marks the highest academic achievement for students in business programs at universities accredited by AACSB International. Respected tenured faculty members also are invited to join. This spring’s induction ceremony included 14 graduate students and 24 in the college’s undergraduate degree programs. Honorees may wear their BGS cords at their graduation ceremonies.

To be eligible for invitation into Beta Gamma Sigma, students must be second-semester juniors or seniors ranking in the upper 10 percent of their class or graduate students ranking in the upper 20 percent of their class. Charley Costa, president of the BGS chapter in the Raleigh area, was among those welcoming the newest members. He encouraged the inductees to take advantage of BGS’s extensive network of professionals in Triangle and globally.

The induction ceremony was led by Elizabeth Warren, Poole College academic advisor and the college’s Beta Gamma Sigma chapter advisor. Dr. Ira R. Weiss, dean of the college and BGS chapter president, presented opening remarks, and Dr. K. Shannon Davis, associate dean of undergraduate programs and chapter vice president, presented closing remarks. Also participating in the induction ceremony were Dr. Lee Craig, head, Department of Economics; Dr. Roger Mayer, professor, Department of Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Clyde Crider, director, Supply Chain Resource Cooperative.
