Poole College’s Economics Department Recognizes Top Undergraduate Economics Students

The Department of Economics at the North Carolina State University Poole College of Management honored its top undergraduate students at a reception held at the college on April 19, 2012. The students have demonstrated excellence in their overall curriculum and specifically in economics. At the reception, the department recognized 39 outstanding economics students, including 28 who were welcomed into Omicron Delta Epsilon, the economics honor society.

“We are very proud of the academic achievements and personal growth these students have made while enrolled in economics in the NC State Poole College of Management,” said Lee Craig, head of the collegeâ��s Department of Economics.

Among those receiving the department’s Wall Street Journal Outstanding Senior Awards were Rita Strang, Andre Kurepa Waschka and Allison McKimmon Thompson (in photo above).

Wilmette, Ill.

  • Rita Strang, senior, daughter of Andrew Strang and Roxanne Koba. She graduated in 2007 from New Trier Township High School.

Apex, N.C.

  • William D. Allen, a junior with a double major in economics and history. The son of Jon and Margaret Allen, he was home schooled and graduated from high school in 2009.
  • JoEllen Billotte, a senior majoring in economics and environmental science. She is the daughter of John and Joyce Billotte and graduated from Apex High School in 2007.
  • David Mall, junior majoring in accounting and economics. He is the son of Carrie Mall and Doug Mall and graduated form Apex High School in 2010
  • William Yeatts, senior majoring in economics and business administration with a concentration in finance. He is the son of Mark Yeatts and Joanna Stephanos and graduated from Apex High School in 2008.

Boone, N.C.

  • Anders Sjostrand, senior, economics and environmental science. He is the son of Patti Sjostrand and Sven Sjostrand, and graduated from Watauga High School in 2008

Burlington, N.C.

  • Andre Kurepa Waschka is a senior with a double major in applied mathematics and economics, and a minor in statistics. He is the son of Alexandra Kurepa and Rodney Waschka and graduated from Walter M. Williams High School in 2009.

Cary, N.C.

  • Jonathan Jakubowski, a junior majoring in economics. He is the son of Joseph and Cherie Jakubowski and graduated from Cary Academy in 2009.

Charlotte, N.C.

  • Collin James Breeney, junior majoring in economics with a minor in accounting. He is the son of James and Beth Breeney and graduated from the Charlotte Latin School in 2009

Denver, N.C.

  • Elizabeth Jordan Covington, senior majoring in economics with a minor in business administration. She is the daughter of Carl and Susan Robinson, and graduated from East Lincoln Senior High in 2008.

Garner, N.C.

  • Daniel Kelly, senior majoring in political science and economics. He is the son of Danny and Linda Kelly and graduated from Southeast Raleigh High School in 2008.

Kinston, N.C.

  • Stuart Michael Peoples, senior majoring in agricultural business management and economics. He is the son of Stuart and Martha Peoples and graduated from Arendell Parrott Academy in La Grange, N.C., in 2008

Lexington, NC

  • Nathan Sink, senior majoring in economics and political science. He is the son of Dwight and Robin Sink and graduated from West Davidson Sr. High in 2008

Mathews, N.C.

  • Matthew Gilmore, senior majoring in economics and political science. He is the son of Bill and Terry Gilmore and graduated from the David W. Butler High School
  • Midlothian, VA

  • Alex Link, junior majoring in economics with a minor in business administration. He is the son of Theodore and Darlene Link and graduated from Trinity Episcopal School in 2009

Monroe, N.C.

  • Andrew Von Wandler, senior majoring in economics. He is the son of Les R. Wandler and Susan S. Wandler and graduated from Piedmont High School in 2008.

Oak City, N.C.

  • Sarah Rawls, a junior majoring in statistics and economics with a minor in mathematics. She is the daughter Lawrence and Julie Rawls and graduated from the Hobgood Academy in 2009.

Pinehurst, N.C.

  • Matthew C. Jackson, senior majoring in economics. He is the son of John and Heather Jackson and graduated from Pinecrest High School in 2008.

Raleigh, N.C.

  • John Alcorn, senior, natural resources with concentrations in economics and management. He is the son of Sally Roberson and Bayard Alcorn and graduated from Enloe High School in 2008.
  • Anthony Ostertag, a senior majoring in agricultural business management with minors in economics and extension education.
  • B. Heath Witzen, a junior majoring in economics with a minor in mathematics. He is the son of Brian and Suzanne Witzen and graduated from Leesville Road High School in 2009.

Tarboro, N.C.

  • Allison McKimmon Thompson, daughter of Ricky and Kay Thompson. She graduated in 2008 from Tarboro High School.

Thomasville, N.C.

  • Binal Patel, junior, majoring in economics with a minor in business administration. He is the son of Bipin Patel and Hansa Patel and graduated from Thomasville Senior High in 2009.

Wake Forest, N.C.

  • Jason Baker, senior majoring in economics and chemical engineering. He is the son of Marvin and Laurie Baker and graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in 2008

  • Syeda Mukita R. Chowdhury, senior majoring in economics. She is the daughter of Syed Raziur R. Chowdhury and Faizunnessa Chowdhury and graduated from the International School Dhaka in 2008.
