Poole College’s Shack-a-Thon Team Raises Over $8,000

Poole College of Management’s Shack-a-Thon team again raised a record amount for NC State’s Habitat for Humanity this year.

The total raised by the college’s team was $8,045, reported Alyson Harding and Carolyn Baxter, co-presidents of Habitat for Humanity at NCSU. With soft money – donations earned by individuals participating in a variety of activities that were part of the Shack-a-Thon week – the final competitive ranking for Poole College’s team was $8,222.50. This exceeds last year’s record-breaking donation of $5,263.

The Poole team was congratulated by the NC State Habitat chapter’s co-presidents, who wrote in an email message: “Your shack played a huge role in helping Habitat for Humanity at NC State have the most successful Shack-a-Thon in history, with a final donation of $28,310.05.” That total exceeded the organization’s goal of $25,000.

Three other top fundraising Shack-a-Thon groups at NC State this year are:

  • College of Natural Resources: $3798.73
  • Caldwell Fellows: $3682.50
  • Unity Shack: $2379.87

Samantha Ballard, the college team’s coordinator, thanks all those who contributed to the college’s Shack-a-Thon account – students, faculty and staff, and especially the corporate sponsors: Poole College’s Board of Advisors, The Hamlin Companies, Probuild,, Rufty Homes and Valentine Properties.

As one of the top four fundraising shacks, the Poole College team is again guaranteed its preferred spot in Shack a Thon 2013.
