Poole College’s WolfPAC Team Advances to Semi-Finals in AICPA Competition

NC State University’s “WolfPAC” team has advanced to the semi-finals of the 2012 American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Accounting Competition and voting is now under way.

The WolfPAC team is one of 16 semi-finalists out of 140 college and university teams from across the nation. The teams are competing for a chance to present their ingenious insights on political financial issues and their plan in Washington, D.C.

The 2012 team consists of Amy Gilmore, a senior in accounting; Ashley Bryant, a senior in managerial accounting; David Mall, a senior in accounting concentrating in information systems; and James Burford, a junior in accounting.

The theme for the 2012 competition is “Save the nation. Line your pockets.” The WolfPAC team has proposed a policy to replace the current income tax system with the Value Added Tax (VAT), a tax system that is simple, fair, and different from anything ever attempted in the United States.

In this round of the competition, each team has created a video to gain support from the public. Videos are up and the polls are open. Here is your chance to help decide which three teams deserve to go to Washington D.C. to compete for the title and $10,000.

The public is invited to view each of the semi-finalist team’s videos at the AICPA competition website – This Way to CPA – and vote for their favorite team presentation. The voting polls are open from November 8, 2012, until November 14, 2012, at 11:59 a.m.

Voting is worth 10 percent of the team’s score. NC State students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to vote and help take WolfPAC to Washington, D.C. The three finalist teams will be announced at 12:00 pm ET on November 16, 2012.
