Poole Council Announces Officers

Elected were Marshall Anthony, president; Alex Overbay, vice president; Stephanie Jackson, secretary; and Alzebeth Roman, treasurer.

Poole Council is a student leadership group that represents all students in the NC State Poole College of Management. Each of the college’s student organizations is encouraged to have a representative on the council, said the group’s faculty advisor, Dr. K. Leigh Forell, a student advisor in the college’s Office of Undergraduate Programs.

Anthony and Roman, both freshmen, worked closely with Forell in fall 2010 to establish the council. The organization chose the Poole Council name to honor Lonnie C. Poole, Jr., for whom the college was named in December 2010.

Connecting students to opportunities within the college was a central theme for the new officers’ involvement with the organization.

Jackson, a sophomore in business administration, said she joined the council to promote communication between students, faculty and administration, adding, “The council is the most effective way to approach this since it serves as a central forum, among other things.”

Roman, who is planning to major in economics and accounting, said that she got involved “to give the organizations and students in the Poole College a central body to go to for information. I also wanted to see more diversity initiatives within the college, and to help other students, mainly freshman and sophomores, become involved within the college.”

Anthony, who is planning to major in business administration, said he helped to create the council “because I wanted to have a voice within my college.” He said he also wanted other students, particularly those not affiliated with a student organization, “to have a voice also. Having helped establish the council with Alzebeth and Dr. Forell was one part of the journey to this vision, and now being able to see this idea take place has been even more exciting.”

Overbay, a sophomore in economics, said he joined the council “to connect students, particular freshman entering the college, (so that they can) become more involved with the college’s many clubs and organizations.” He stressed the value of building a network while in college in addition to studying. “A healthy balance between the two is the tool to maximizing your four year experience at NC State,” he said.
