Rankings reflect strength of Poole Accounting Programs

The Jenkins Master of Accounting program in the NC State Poole College of Management has been showing up on a growing list of rankings in the past year.

Most recently, the NC State Jenkins MAC program was ranked No. 8 on the 2014 30 Top Affordable Master’s in Accounting/Master of Accountancy Degree Programs list. This organization ranks more than 200 affordable MAC programs (where tuition – financial aid is less than $22,000) factors that include:

• Student-to-faculty ratio
• Average undergrad GPA
• Number of major-related student organizations
• Percentage of students employed by graduation

They also accessed schools based on Princeton Review’s academic experience and career ratings.

"It is gratifying to learn that external groups continue to recognize the high quality of our undergraduate and Jenkins Master of Accounting programs as we prepare students to excel as accounting and business professionals,” said Frank Buckless, KPMG Professor of Accounting and head of the college’s Department of Accounting.

The MAC program was also ranked No. 36 on the Accounting Tomorrow’s Accounting Degree Review. This ranking takes into accounting results of four other rankings when creating its Top 50 lists: U.S. News and World Report; Public Accounting Report; Brigham Young University’s faculty research ranking, and Tax Talent. It also takes into account the schools’ accreditation by AACSB; Poole College is accredited in both accounting and business management.

The Jenkins MAC program has had a strong placement record, with between 95 percent and 100 percent of graduates reporting that they have secured positions within three months of graduation. The majority of the graduates that have reported placement information are working in public accounting firms, including the Big Four, mid-market, regional and local firms; the rest have corporate or government positions.

Seventy-seven percent of the current MAC class has bachelor’s degrees in accounting; 23 percent, other degrees. The MAC 2015 cohort represents 46 universities in the U.S. and abroad.
