Ready, Set, Go … Let the Classes Begin

Although enrollment numbers won’t be confirmed for a few weeks yet, the College of Management expects to have 3,100 new and returning students in its classrooms at Nelson Hall this year. A cohort of 18 are attending classes much further away – at the college’s Master of Global Innovation Management partner school near Aix in Provence, France. This is the second year that the college is offering the dual degree, one-year international master’s program.

Among those attending the NC State College of Management this year are 19 international students from 13 countries. A group of the college’s dual-degree Hamilton Scholars program students helped them get acclimated to campus during last week’s orientation program, while dozens of Peer Leaders worked with the Undergraduate Programs Office’s advising staff throughout July to help the college’s 385 freshmen and 400 transfer students get their bearing academically. The Peer Leaders also hosted a Freshmen Welcome party in the Nelson East Courtyard on Tuesday.

In addition to the new undergraduate students, the college’s Jenkins Graduate School of Management admitted 425 students this year. The Jenkins Master of Accounting Program has just over 100 students entering the program this year. The Jenkins MBA program welcomed 65 students to its full time program and 70 to its part time program for working professionals. The Graduate Economics Program, offered jointly with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, has 22 new doctoral students and 23 new master’s students joining the program this fall.

The college also welcomed several new faculty members this fall:

  • Keith Brouthers, professor of strategy, Department of Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship
  • Andrea Civeli, visiting instructor, Department of Economics
  • Srinivasan Krishnamurthy, associate professor, Department of Business Management
  • Brad Lail, assistant professor, Department of Accounting
  • Jeffrey Stonebraker, assistant professor of supply chain management, Department of Business Management

Also, Valarie James joined the Department of Economics as assistant director of the Graduate Economics Program.
