UPDATES

ADVERSE WEATHER INFO | Reminder from Franklin Finch: If you’re teaching or holding an event in any Nelson Hall classrooms this weekend, please be aware that we are preparing for the incoming storm. Vicki Rennecker-Nakayoshi will be our primary building liaison point during this weekend. Watch for weather-related updates on the university website. Also, check for a message sent via the poolecomdean address.

STILL NEED TWO-FACTOR TRAINING? | Poole College has two sessions scheduled: Monday, September 11 and Monday, September 25.

NEW PROCEDURE FOR SUBMITTING COLLEGE MARKETING REQUESTS | The college marketing team is introducing a new process for any requests into our team. We know this will take time to adopt, and we thank you in advance for your willingness to try new things! This will allow us to much better track and manage the flow of requests to best meet your needs.

  • This new process pertains to any marketing, communications, web and/or photography or other media needs. Requests may include: website edits, calendar listings, creative materials, press releases, articles, social media postings, inclusion in weekly E-News, etc. The one exception is e-billboard requests, which will continue to follow the submission guidelines located here.

Financial System maintenance is still scheduled for this weekend. | The Financial System is expected to be unavailable from 6 AM on Saturday until 6 PM on Sunday during this maintenance. This includes the PCard Center, MarketPlace, Travel, Journals, Vouchers, the PI Portal, IDT’s, etc.  For more information regarding any non IT-related events listed here, please refer to the NCSU Home Page. https://www.ncsu.edu/

Also this weekend | The Brooks Parking Lot will be closed. It will reopen at 6:00 AM on Monday, September 11. Alternate parking is located in the Dan Allen Deck.

Friday, September 15, 12-1:30 PM | Online Teaching Forum. Topic: Forum Top Hat – Turn your students’ phones into learning tools, Nelson Board Room (3rd floor). Free lunch if you RSVP by noon Monday, September 11. RSVP online  Note: In this forum, exclusively for PCOM faculty, three Poole professors who are using Top Hat, as well as with NC State’s Top Hat account manager, Kara Dingboom, will be presenting. Kara will be attending remotely using Zoom, while Jeff Pollack, Robin Thomas, and Paul Mulvey will be on site to talk about Top Hat with fellow faculty member.

  • About this resource. Top Hat is a comprehensive teaching platform that instructors can use to engage students both within and outside of the classroom with interactive slides, graded questions, customized content, videos, discussions, and polls. Students use smartphones, tablets, laptops, or ordinary cell phones to participate in Top Hat activities. More information from DELTA

Sept. 12 | Advancing Your Green Career. This panel discussion, moderated by Traci Rose Rider, coordinator for the Design Initiative for Sustainability and Heath, has been organized by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) at NC State. The panel is comprised of a diverse group of professionals from various fields and the discussion is designed to raise awareness of green career opportunities and to encourage student and emerging professionals to integrate sustainability principles into their work across all fields. Register here.

NC State’s Alumni Entrepreneurs Network (AEN) and Office of Technology Commercialization and New Ventures (OTCNV) partnered with CED to present four companies that are truly changing the world at CED’s Tech Venture Conference. Leaders from each company will share more about their journey, their story, and their company, followed by a short Q&A. The Alumni Entrepreneurs is an organization for current or previous business founders looking to become more deeply involved with entrepreneurship at NC State. Details here
