Computer Purchase Info for Students

*Strongly encouraged – New or readmitted students beginning their programs with the Poole College of Management effective May 13, 2020 are strongly encouraged to have access to an integrated web cam via their laptops or an external web cam for use with their desktops. These web cams will be used for online instruction, quizzes, testing and final exams. Windows Based – RECOMMENDED

We have partnered with Lenovo and Microsoft Surface at the NC State Bookstore to provide the best laptop/tablet options for NC State at special education prices.  We have also partnered with Apple, but please note that some of the upper-level courses in certain plans of study in the Poole College of Management use software that is not compatible with Apple operating systems.

Software, Hardware and Antivirus Guidelines

NC State Bookstore Purchases

If a laptop is purchased through the NC State Bookstore, students can receive computer support at the OIT Walk-In Center that includes these areas:

  • Warranty and hardware repair

Software

Microsoft Office 365, including full downloadable versions of Office products, is available free for NC State students from the NC State Office 365 website.

Hardware

Antivirus

NC State University requires use of an approved and up-to-date antivirus program for all computers connected to the NC State network.  Anti-virus software recommendations are available at Antivirus Products.
